Most coaching businesses in India do not have a marketing problem. They have an offer that has never been tested against strangers, and a calendar that only fills through people who already know them.
Referrals work until they run out. Here is what comes after, ranked honestly by speed.
1. Paid traffic to a booking funnel
Fastest, and the only one on this list where you control the volume. You run Meta ads to a page, the page books a call, and automation follows up until they show.
The realistic starting cost is 700 to 2,000 rupees a day in ad spend for a proper test, run for at least seven days without touching anything. Below that the campaign never exits Meta’s learning phase and you learn nothing.
This works when your offer sells for more than about 20,000 rupees. Below that the maths gets difficult, because the cost of acquiring a stranger does not shrink just because your price did.
2. Organic content on one platform
Slower, cheaper, and compounding. The mistake is spreading across four platforms and being invisible on all of them.
Pick the one where your buyer already is. For business and career coaching in India that is usually LinkedIn. For fitness, relationships and language coaching it is usually Instagram or YouTube. Post about the specific problem you solve, not about coaching as a concept.
Expect three to six months before this produces predictable enquiries. It is worth starting anyway, because it lowers the cost of everything else you do later.
3. Asking past clients properly
The most underused channel in Indian coaching, and it costs nothing.
The ask that works is specific. Not “let me know if you know anyone”, which puts the work on them. Instead: “you mentioned your colleague was struggling with the same thing, would you be comfortable introducing us?” Named, specific, easy to say yes to.
The right time is immediately after a result, not at a random point in the month.
4. Partnerships with people who already have your audience
A nutritionist and a fitness coach share a buyer. A career coach and a resume writer share a buyer. One joint webinar into a warm list beats a month of cold ads, and costs nothing but time.
What to do first if you have nothing running
Write the offer down in one sentence: who it is for, what changes, and by when. If you cannot do that, no channel will save you.
Then test it with the cheapest honest signal available. Ten conversations with people who fit the description, asking what they would pay to solve it. Then a small paid test, 700 rupees a day for a week, pointed at a single page.
The order matters. Most coaches buy the funnel before they have proof anyone wants the offer, and then conclude that funnels do not work.
What I would not do
Cold DMs at scale. They are the default advice in Indian coaching circles and they burn your account, your reputation and your time in exchange for a very low response rate. If you have to do outreach, do it in small numbers with genuine personalisation.
