Most Indian course businesses I look at have the same shape of problem. The course is good, the funnel exists, and sales are flat. The cause is almost never the funnel.
Validate before you build
The most expensive mistake is recording forty lessons before finding out whether anyone will pay.
Sell the outline first. Run a paid workshop, or pre-sell the course at a lower price to a small group, and build it while delivering. If nobody buys the outline, nobody was going to buy the finished thing, and you have saved yourself two months.
Price decides your entire strategy
This is the part people get backwards. Your price determines which selling method is even available to you.
| Price | What can sell it |
|---|---|
| Under ₹2,000 | Self-serve checkout. Ads rarely pay back on a single sale. |
| ₹2,000–15,000 | Webinar or VSL funnel. Automation does the selling. |
| ₹15,000–50,000 | Webinar plus a call, or a strong application funnel. |
| Above ₹50,000 | A sales call is almost always required. |
Trying to sell a ₹40,000 program from a checkout button, or running sales calls for a ₹1,500 course, is where most of the wasted effort in this market goes.
The sequence that works
A lead magnet that solves one specific problem, not a general PDF. Then a webinar or VSL that teaches something genuinely useful and makes the offer at the end. Then follow-up, which is where most of the revenue actually appears.
On that last point: for an Indian audience the follow-up should run on WhatsApp, not only email. Consumer email engagement in India is low enough that an email-only sequence leaves money on the table.
The payment layer, before the funnel
Sort this before you build pages. Indian buyers pay by UPI, so your checkout needs to handle it cleanly. Razorpay and Cashfree both do, and take roughly 2 percent plus GST per transaction.
Also plan for EMI on higher-priced courses. For anything above about ₹20,000, offering instalments measurably changes conversion in this market.
What ads can and cannot do
Ads can bring strangers to a proven offer. They cannot make an unproven offer work, and they will expose a weak one faster than anything else.
Start at ₹700 to ₹1,000 a day pointed at the registration page for a webinar. Meta needs about 50 conversion events in 7 days to optimise, so divide your daily budget by 7.14 to see the most expensive registration cost it can sustain. At ₹1,000 a day, that is about ₹140 per registration.
Delivery affects sales more than people expect
Refunds, chargebacks and silence come from courses people never finish. Completion is a marketing problem as much as a teaching one.
Short lessons, one clear action per module, and a reminder sequence for people who stall. A student who finishes is the cheapest source of the next sale you will ever have.
