The most valuable AI automation for an Indian business is not content generation. It is the one that decides who deserves your time.
WhatsApp is where Indian leads actually reply, so that is where this belongs.
What it does
A lead arrives from an ad or a form. Within seconds an AI opens a conversation on WhatsApp, asks two or three qualifying questions, records the answers against the contact, and either books a call or politely closes the loop.
You wake up to 5 booked calls with context rather than 40 unread enquiries, and the 5 arrive with budget and timeline already attached.
The questions that matter
Keep it to 3. Reply rates fall sharply past that, and 3 answers are enough to sort a lead into buy-now, buy-later or not-a-fit.
- Budget, asked as a range so it is easy to answer honestly.
- Timeline, because someone buying this quarter and someone researching for next year need completely different handling.
- One qualifying specific to your business: property configuration, course goal, current ad spend.
The rules that keep it from being irritating
Say it is an assistant. Pretending to be a person is a short-term trick that produces long-term distrust, and people work it out.
Let anyone reach a human immediately by asking. That escape hatch is the difference between helpful and infuriating.
Reply in the language they wrote in. An Indian lead who messages in Hindi and receives formal English has already decided something about you.
Stop after two unanswered messages. Persistence is a feature until it is a complaint.
The cost angle most people miss
Meta charges per template message delivered, but ordinary conversation inside a 24-hour service window is free. More usefully, a lead who reaches you through a Click-to-WhatsApp ad opens a 72-hour window where all messaging is free.
So an AI qualifier running on traffic from Click-to-WhatsApp campaigns costs essentially nothing in message fees, provided the conversation happens inside that window. Design the flow to finish within three days and the economics look very different from an SMS-based equivalent.
What to measure
Not the number of conversations. Measure the show-up rate on booked calls and the proportion of calls that were worth having.
If qualification is working, your call volume goes down and your close rate goes up. A team seeing more calls and the same closes has built a chatbot, not a qualifier.
Where to draw the line
AI should qualify and schedule. It should not negotiate price, handle complaints, or make commitments. Those conversations decide whether someone buys, and they are yours.
